Archive of Japanese Housing

This is a house that has the outer walls completely covered in concrete. The other houses in the neighborhood mostly were causal Japanese styled houses that can be seen anywhere, therefore this house, standing on the corner of the street, stood out. The plants grown outside the walls where people could see them added color to the house, giving an energetic and natural essence to the surroundings and itself.

Unlike other houses that can be seen in neighborhoods, this house has more of a western look, and is larger in comparison. It uses bricks for walls, and has white pillars under an eave. Additionally, the symmetrical structure adds a taste to the balance of the environment.

This house seemed like a mix between Japanese-style and western style. The outside walls on the second floor have some black lines, and since those stripes aren’t seen often in houses, it stands out from the other houses. Additionally, the walls for said second floor is diagonal instead of vertical, and when looking at it from the sides, it is shaped like a pentagon. The colors are simple, using only black and white. Because that contrasts the uniqueness of the design itself, it blends in well with the other buildings in the neighborhood.

This is a house made mostly out of concrete. A cylindrical structure above the front door and bricks with different colors on the sides of the walls can be raised as unique accents for this, therefore being good appeals for the appearance of the exterior.

Though this house may look simple and common, there are some aspects that aren’t really seen in other ones. The three windows on the 2nd story, right side of this house, are extremely close to each other. Usually, windows are spread apart from each other, especially if not leading to the same balcony, and instead use larger window panels. Additionally, the difference in window size on the left side of the house can also be considered as a nice touch. The two windows on the left are the same size, while the one above the door is slightly larger. Although it may sound unbalanced, the combination between the left and right sides make it work.

With outer walls looking like a container, white windowsills, and the tree that is sticking out into the garage, this house has a slight beach aesthetic compared to the other houses in the neighbourhood, making this stand out. Most outer walls use simple concrete and are flat, or tiles to make it look like bricks. This one is neither, with vertical bumps every few centimeters. Another unique part about this house is the open space on the second floor. On the very right of the container-like part’s second story, there isn’t a window, but an outer area. From the outside, it is difficult to tell whether that’s just an open space where we can enter, or a kind of balcony. Either way, that open space makes this unique house stand out even more, aesthetic aside.

This house looks like a couple of boxes combined to make a new, unique shape. This is because the concrete used here, the Hebel Concrete, works best when used like bricks. The main colors used in this is a light grey color, but it also has a darker shade of grey as a touch. This makes it blend in with the other houses in a neighbourhood (unless the others around use vibrant colors). The combination of the unique shape and commonly used colors makes sure that the house stands out, but also stabilizes the aesthetic of the landscape.

If you thought that this house looks quite expensive, that instinct is correct. This house is the most expensive within this housing exhibition. The wall that seems to be protecting privacy is not something we see every day. The black-ish grey matte painted walls, combined with the wooden, side opening door, and the window grating with a similar structure as the previously mentioned door, creates a modern luxurious touch to the semi-Japanese style house. The accent-color of green brings an additional brilliance to the stern colors.

The entrance area of this house is particularly distinctive. The fence with the design based on Piet Mondrian’s paintings is right in front of the porch, with walls on the sides that cover some sides of the said porch. Above that is a veranda larger than the porch, with tall walls that make it impossible for people to see what’s behind there. On top of that is a ceiling/roof that is even wider than the veranda. Additionally, when looking at this house from below, it can be seen like the house uses 3 different colors depending on its layer.

This house has a simple structure of a balcony above a square-shaped terrace. From the front, this looks like a house that can be seen anywhere, since it’s shaped like a box. In reality, the roof is slanted. It can be guessed that the ceiling is getting closer to the door on the other side of the house. That alone can be said to prove that this is a unique house.

This house has cafes as a motif, and because of that, it looks rather stylish on both the inside and outside. The shapes of the windows being more of a European style and the roof being similar to the traditional Japanese style creates a mix of Japanese and European. Additionally, the edges being round and smooth makes it more friendly and welcoming. In conclusion, this house has both stylishness and friendliness, therefore making me think that this is more targeted for a young family with children.

The structure of this house is quite simple, but what’s special is that the terrace and veranda, as well as the garden that is in front of that, creates a rather open space. The gaps made by the fences on the veranda create a sense of freedom and stableness. For the terrace, there is a space in which people can set up swings, therefore making it more of a space for families to relax and spend their time together.

This house has a simple structure, while having unique color schemes and materials. Usually, Japanese homes don’t use acacia and use cedar instead. This house, the WONDER DEVICE, had chosen not to do so. Because of that, this house has a rare royal aesthetic for a log house, therefore being special. Additionally, the space in the top and bottom create a rather playful environment, therefore making it seem like a fitting place for families to live in.

A house from COUNTRY LOG is basically a log house coated in blue paint. The deck space has firewood and space to put some furniture so that families can relax in that area. The kumiki is simple and pleasant to look at. Additionally, the shape of the roof is something that is not seen very often, making it a unique aspect for this house. The maintenance may be difficult, but as long as that’s taken care of, it definitely would be a fun place to live in.
